Corrosion by Hot CO2 Gases

چکیده

Heat-resisting alloys are designed to survive high-temperature oxidation by forming a slow-growing scale, usually Cr 2 O 3 , which acts as barrier between the metal and its environment. However, that succeed in this way when exposed hot oxygen or air fail do so CO gas. Instead, they exhibit rapid “breakaway” corrosion, developing oxides of alloy base iron and/or nickel. The growth these non-protective scales is accompanied internal carburization underlying alloy. Carbon passes through oxide, dissolves alloy, precipitates chromium carbide. Removal from matrix makes incapable reforming chromia, recovery breakaway becomes impossible.

Hot Corrosion in Gas Turbines

DURING COMBUSTION in the gas turbine, sulfur from the fuel reacts with sodium chloride from ingested air at elevated temperatures to form sodium sulfate. The sodium sulfate then deposits on the hot-section components, such as nozzle guide vanes and rotor blades, resulting in accelerated oxidation (or sulfidation) attack. This is commonly referred to as “hot corrosion.” Sulfur in the fuel is gen...

Hot Topics in Cold Gases

Since the first experimental realization of Bose-Einstein condensation in cold atomic gases in 1995 there has been a surge of activity in this field. Ingenious experiments have allowed us to probe matter close to zero temperature and reveal some of the fascinating effects quantum mechanics has bestowed on nature. It is a challenge for mathematical physicists to understand these various phenomen...

Use of the Curtis-Godson approximation in calculations of radiant heating by inhomogeneous hot gases.

Calculations of radiant heating by inhomogeneous hot gases require knowledge of spectral transmittances of inhomogeneous optical paths. Determination of these transmittances is a difficult problem that can be attacked by means of the Curtis-Godson approximation, which replaces each inhomogeneous optical path with a hypothetical homogeneous path that has the same transmittance. The authors have ...

Sieving of hot gases by hyper-cross-linked nanoscale-hybrid membranes.

Macromolecular networks consisting of homogeneously distributed covalently bonded inorganic and organic precursors are anticipated to show remarkable characteristics, distinct from those of the individual constituents. A novel hyper-cross-linked ultrathin membrane is presented, consisting of a giant molecular network of alternating polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxanes and aromatic imide bridge...
